Beginning in Spring 2018, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History presents Revisiting the Founding Era, a public programming initiative to promote community conversations in public libraries. Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Revisiting the Founding Era will use historical documents to spark public conversations about the Founding Era’s enduring ideas and themes and encourage understanding and appreciation of the time period.
Revisiting the Founding Era is designed to provide librarians and local leaders with the resources and support they need to create engaging community conversations around the Founding Era ideas and themes that influence our lives today. As part of the program, libraries will receive:
- A $1,000 programming stipend to help fund a minimum of two local programs.
- Twenty printed copies, as well as a PDF version, of the Revisiting the Founding Era project reader.
- A training webinar, coordinated by the Institute and the American Library Association, providing tools to implement programming.
- Videos of scholars discussing the humanities themes and Founding Era documents.
- An interactive timeline placing the documents from the reader in historical context.
- PDF of the site support notebook with an introduction to the humanities themes and guiding questions, programming ideas, and press materials.
- Customizable social media logos for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more.
